This Queen Esther Bible Lesson was written as part of a Bible program done across schools in South Africa - and it just might be the perfect thing for wherever you are too! This lesson teaches kids about bravery and courage, and knowing their place in God's big story.

The program elements include a name game, memory verse, song, lesson, Q&A, and prayer.

This is lesson #9 in a series on the Old Testament's most epic tales:

and so forth...

May you find space here to pause, reflect, and abide.

A jeweled crown on a draped cloth against a soft brown background. The ornate crown features colorful gems, exuding elegance and grandeur. Like Queen Esther in the Bible.

Icebreaker

Start like this:

- Moses was an orphan, but then the King adopted him. Later, God sent him to that same King, the Pharaoh, to let God’s people go.

- David had to take food to his brothers in the army. While he was there, he had the chance to defeat Goliath.

- Are there examples in our own lives of when things worked out so perfectly?

Divide the kids into groups of 5 (if you have enough helpers; otherwise keep everyone together). Each kid names something ‘random’ that has happened in their life. The other kids have to try and think why it could’ve happened - is there possibly some good in it? Can we perhaps see God’s hand?

Songs

Bible-memory-verse

Joshua 23:14

(Make with hands: J  2  3  1  4)

Deep in your hearts you know th

at every promise of the Lord your God has come true. Not a single one has failed.”

(Make with hands: ♥️🫵🫱🏼‍🫲🏾👍🙅🙈)

Every Bible-memory-verse has emojis indicating which moves to do with your hands to perform and memorise the verse. Example: Make a heart with your hands to show “Deep in your hearts”. Point to a friend to show “you know that”. Shake hands with someone to show “every promise of the Lord your God”. Give a thumbs up to show “has come true”. Cross hands in front of you to show “not a single one”. Put hands over face to show “has failed”.

Queen Esther Bible lesson

Let me tell you about the Bible Book of Esther show a physical Bible. One day there was an orphan, Esther, who was very sad. ☹️ Her daddy and mommy were gone and she felt very alone. Esther always hoped her life could mean something big, but she didn’t know how.

Many years later, the King 👑 of that country was looking for a wife. Esther was all grown up and very beautiful - the King chose her! Suddenly Esther was the queen, but she was still sad.

She talked to her cousin at the palace’s gate. She missed him. God’s people, Abraham’s family, who received the Promise, was very sad. The King was mean to them and they were very scared. 🙈

Esther didn’t know what to do. She was scared to talk to the King. But one day, at the palace’s gate, her cousin told her 🗣️:

“Who knows if the reason you are queen is not exactly for such a time as this!”

Then Esther realized: “It’s true! I am Queen for a reason. Maybe I can do something after all.” She gathered all her courage and went to the King. God was on her side and the King listened. God saved His people - through Esther. 👑

That was her role to play in God’s Big Story!
