This Ruth and Boaz Bible lesson teaches the important values from the story in a way kids can understand. This lesson is focused on what we can learn from Ruth. It's about faithfulness, sticking with God's people, and loyalty. The program elements include a name game, memory verse, song, lesson, Q&A, and prayer.
May you find space here to pause, reflect, and abide.

Icebreaker
“When were you…” happy, excited, shy, angry, sad, heartbroken. Let them raise their hands and share in 2 sentences with the rest of the class. Example: “I was happy when I got this job and heard I can become your teacher.” If someone shares something really sad, hold space for them and say: “Thank you for sharing that with us” or “We will talk more about this later”. End with: “Today we will learn about how God can change even our deepest pain into joy”

Bible-memory-verse
Psalm 56:3-4
(Make with hands: P 5 6 3 4)
“When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?”
(Make with hands: 🫣☝️🙌👍🙅🤷💪)
Each Bible-memory-verse has emojis indicating what movements to make with your hands - this helps the kids memorise the verse. Example: Cover eyes with hands for “When I am afraid”. Point up to Heaven for “I will put my trust in you”. Lift arms in worship for “I praise God for what He has promised”. Show a thumbs up for “I trust in God”. Cross arms in front of body for “why should I be afraid?”. Lift arms as if asking a question to show “What can mere mortals do to me?” End by showing muscles.
Ruth and Boaz Bible lesson
Remember: God’s Big Story is that He was close to people (in the Garden of Eden), then they turned away from Him (and chose sin). But God promised to make a plan so that people could live close to Him again (that plan was Jesus).
Today’s story begins a bit sad. One day there was a woman with the name Ruth. We read about her in the Book of Ruth in the Bible. show a physical Bible Ruth’s husband died suddenly so she was alone with her mother-in-law, Naomi. Naomi’s husband also died, so the two widows were alone and very sad… ☹️
Naomi was part of Abraham’s family - the people who received God’s promise. But not Ruth, she was from another religion and culture. Yet, when Ruth was part of Naomi’s family, before her husband and father-in-law died, she learned a lot from them about God. 💭
It became time for Naomi to return to her people. She called Ruth to her and said: “You can go, Ruth. Go find a new husband. Marry again. You don’t want to be stuck with an old woman like me!” But Ruth took Naomi’s hand in her own and promised her: 🗣️
“Where you go, I will go. Where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.”
So Ruth chose to become part of God’s promise-people, the family of Abraham. God blessed Ruth with a good husband and a child! They were so happy.
Ruth’s story teaches us to stick by people through thick and thin. She’s an example of someone who was not part of God’s family, but joined later - like you and me.
