In this God's promise to Abraham Bible Lesson, kids will learn the Old Testament foundation of Jesus Christ. The promise that God made to Abraham would echo out through generations to come until it was fulfilled by Jesus, God incarnate. The aim of this lesson is to teach kids that God is a promise-keeper. The program elements include a name game, memory verse, song, lesson, Q&A, and prayer.

May you find space here to pause, reflect, and abide.

Silhouette of a person, like Biblical Abraham, standing on a hill, gazing at a starry night sky with a shooting star, surrounded by dark mountain silhouettes.

Icebreaker

Hide three items in the room beforehand. Now tell the kids that there are 3 items hidden for them to find. They can only ask ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ questions until they find it / know what it is. Before each answer that you give, say the words 🗣️: “I PROMISE”. Example: “Sir, is it close to the windows?” “I promise, yes.” The idea is that we put the focus on ‘promise’ right from the get-go.

Deep in your hearts you know that every promise of the Lord your God has come true. Not a single one has failed.”

(Make with hands: ♥️🫵🫱🏼‍🫲🏾👍🙅🙈)

Every Bible-memory-verse has emojis indicating which moves to do with your hands to perform and memorise the verse. Example: Make a heart with your hands to show “Deep in your hearts”. Point to a friend to show “you know that”. Shake hands with someone to show “every promise of the Lord your God”. Give a thumbs up to show “has come true”. Cross hands in front of you to show “not a single one”. Put hands over face to show “has failed”.

God's Promise to Abraham Bible lesson

Who can remember what we spoke about the previous times? (The Creation; The Flood

Today, we’ll pick up our story a bit later in Genesis - The first book in the Bible. show a physical Bible Here we read about someone with the name Abraham. Can you say that?🗣️A-bra-ham.

Remember, God promised Adam & Eve that He would make a plan so that they can live close to Him again. He saved Noah from the Big Flood, and now it was time to make His Big Promise. 🫱🏼‍🫲🏾

Who knows what a promise is? … It is when you promise that something is really gonna happen. We can trust God. He ALWAYS keeps His promises. How do I know that? 📖 Well, the Bible is full of examples of when God kept His promises.

Let’s read what God promised Abraham: Look up into the sky and count the stars ✨  if you can. 🔢 That’s how many descendants you will have!” And Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith.”

Abraham trusted God. God promised to make Abraham part of God’s Big Story. He also said that He would bless ALL the nations on Earth through Abraham. 🌍

Do you know how? Through Jesus! Jesus was part of Abraham’s family and He is God’s biggest promise to the people. Through Jesus, ALL the nations can become part of God’s big family. Even you and me! And so we can live close to God again. 🌱

God’s Big Story is that He was close to people (in the Garden of Eden), then they turned away from Him (and chose sin). But God promised to make a plan so that people could live close to Him again (that plan was Jesus).
