A to Z Bible characters and words

Coming up with an A to Z Bible list proved more challenging than anticipated. The Bible does not have a character for each letter of the alphabet, but there are many other words or ideas in the rich library of Scripture that can be included for a full list of Bible cards (A - Z).
The following list was compiled as an additional resource to my A-Z Bible Flashcards:
A-Z Bible Characters and Words with Short Descriptions
Adam was the very first person God ever made. He was God’s friend in the Garden of Eden. You can also be God’s friend and live His way. He loves you very much!
Boaz was a wheat farmer who was very kind. He helped a widow named Ruth and in the end he married her. You can be like Boaz and show kindness to other people.
Cain did not give God his very best. His brother did and Cain got so jealous that he picked up that rock... You don’t have to be like Cain. Choose to live in God’s love!
David was a shepherd-boy who loved making music. He trusted God, defeated a giant, and became King later on. You can also be like David and worship God with your voice.
Esther started out as an orphan. Then she became queen of her country who bravely saved her people. You can also be courageous and brave like Esther for God’s way.
Felix heard the Good News message of Jesus, but his heart was hard. You don’t have to be like Felix. Soften and lean back in God’s great love for you.
God is the Maker of everything around us - and you. He made you to glorify Him and be His friend. He loves you very much. You are made in the image of God.
Hannah loved God very much, but she had a deep hearts’ desire: She wanted a baby. She prayed and asked God and He have her a son. You can be like Hannah and pray to God.

Israel is the name of God’s special nation, the Israelites. From Father Abraham, God walked closely with these people. You can also be part of God’s people because Jesus came.
Jesus is the Son of God, sent to Earth to save you and me. You can accept Jesus’ invitation to live in your heart and become more like Him every day.
Kings in the Bible were put in charge of God’s people. You can learn about making good choices and doing God’s will by hearing the kings’ stories.
Lazarus was a friend of Jesus who sadly died. Jesus wept at his grave and then He said: “Lazarus, come out.” To everyone’s surprise, Lazarus walked out with a big smile.
Moses saw God in the burning bush. He led God’s people out of Egypt and into the wilderness where they learned to live God’s way through the 10 commandments.
Nehemiah had a special task from God: to rebuild Jerusalem’s wall. You can be like Nehemiah and dream up big plans with God, following His lead every step of the way.
Obed was the son of Ruth and Boaz. After lots of heartbreak, his parents found each other and fell in love - showing that, with God, any story can be rewritten to have a good ending.
Paul was the first missionary. He went very far to tell people about Jesus and how much He loves them. You can be like Paul and also witness to God’s goodness in your own life.
Quirinius is the name of the leader who ordered that all the people had to be counted. This is why Joseph and Mary travelled to Bethlehem & that’s when Jesus was born.
Ruth chose to become part of God’s people. She left everything that was familiar to her behind to live God’s way and He blessed her. You can also be loyal to God’s purposes.
The Holy Spirit is present from the first page of the Bible. The Spirit is our special Helper, living in our hearts, and showing us how to live God’s way.
Timothy was a follower of Jesus, much like you and I. He was mentored by Paul and learning how to live according to God’s will. Paul wrote letters to him (1 and 2 Timothy).
Uzziah was a good king of Israel who led God’s way, but near the end of his life he turned away from God. We can learn a lot from his life about why it’s better to stay near God.
Vashti is the name of the queen who was reigning before Esther. Vashti’s crown was passed on to Esther, who was able to save God’s people when they needed it most.
Worship is an action word - You can worship God by living His way, spending time with Jesus, talking to Him in prayer, honoring Him through work, moving your body, or music.
Xerxes was the king who chose Esther to be his wife. Even though he did not know it, God was working through him, to put Esther in the position to save God’s people.
Yohanan was a strong military leader, but he didn’t listen to the advice of God’s special messengers - the prophets. We can learn to listen to God’s voice by Johanan’s mistakes.
Zacchaeus was a short man who really wanted to see Jesus, but the crowds were too crazy. So he climbed up in a fig tree and watched from there. Jesus became his friend.
